If you want to be happy.

If you want to be happy (pleased, content) you need to know yourself really honestly. That's my opinion - and experience. To achieve this it is necessary to feel.

Knowing myself is knowing my strengths and my weaknesses, as well as knowing how I feel [and sometimes why I feel that way]. Trouble is, some feelings are unpleasant, threatening, overwhelming or painful.

In an ideal world learning to manage emotions is achieved through parental modelling. In the real word - the one I live in - very few children are taught this skill. The good news is that these skills can be learned at any stage of life. The bad news is that it takes time and persistence to acquire them - as it does to acquire all complex skills [tennis, cricket, music, maths]. (The 10 000 hours study [originally Malcolm Gladwell - via Ericsson, Krampe and Tesch-Romer]).

When I have honest, accurate, reality based self knowledge I am able to respond to situations rather than react to them. This allows me to control how I behave and be deliberate in the choices I make. Which makes me happy.

This may sound oversimplified and trite, but really it is just that simple - and I mean simple, not easy.

If you would like help in leading a more rewarding and satisfying life come and see me and we can talk about how you could achieve it.
